It was the first time that I read historical information about the measurement units, especially, the metric system. I have read in a part of my textbook that this system was first developed in France during the late eighteenth century which was surprising fact. I actually didn't think about the development of the measurement units in FRANCE. I always think about France as a country that specialized in fashion and perfume; I didn't think about it as a country which has an interest in science. Therefore, for me, it was a really surprising fact.
I didn't realize this either! How fascinating! You might be interested in learning more about Marie Curie, a famous French chemist and physicist from the late 1800's/early 1900's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Curie
